KATIE- I like your image in reference to what psu would look like with only one building. GOOD ATTENTION GETTER! Good luck on your presentation and enjoy yourself while doing it.
Katie- You can really tell that you did your research on Old Main. You have alot of facts and alot of support to back up your main points. However, some of your transitions are not elaborate enough to show the audience that you are switching to a new point. Can't wait to see your speech. Good luck tomorrow!- Lauren Grimes
Katie this looks really good. It's not easy to make 3 points about Old Main but i think you puled it off. My advice, talk slow because it seems like it might be on the short side, and wear a funny hat. Ryan
Nice outline Katie! You seem very informed about Old Main. Your information flows nicely. I'm sure you'll do a great job today! Just make sure your speech meets the time requirements...it looks a little short. Good luck!-Katie

Introduction:
I. Attention Getter: Imagine coming to Penn State and the entire campus being just one building, one building where both faculty and students lived, ate, and attended classes. Well about 144 years ago that’s what Penn State students experienced.
II. Introduction Body: The building that we refer to as “Old Main” was originally called “Main Building.” This one landmark has truly stood the test of time from originally being the whole Penn state campus to now being just one of many buildings. Today, it is still an important structure housing the President of the University as well as other administrators.
III. Main Points: Old Main stands as the heart of Penn State due to its History, Beauty and it’s maintaining importance to all students.
Transition: As a plaque outside of this historical landmark states “Old Main” was first completed in 1863 on its original site that we all see and walk past everyday.
(Main Point #1 History)
I. However, in the 1920’s “Main Building” was declared structurally unsafe and was rebuilt in 1930.
a. It was able to maintain its same location,
b. as well as some of the original land stone;
c. however, this is when it earned its new name --“Old Man.”
II. Students also contributed to the history of “Old Main.”
a. When debating over what to purchase as a class gift, this landmark is where many chose to leave there history at.
b. As an old article in the Collegian titled “Class of 1990 votes on what legacy it will leave University” states the class of 1904 donated the clock atop Old Main’s bell tower.
c. This is just one of many class gifts that contributed to “Old Mains” exquisiteness and importance.
Transition: The beauty does not just end from the outside appeal of the building.
(Main Point #2 Beauty)
I. One is greeted with beautiful frescos when walking in.
a. The purpose of these murals is to pay tribute to the establishment of Penn State University
b. as well as land-grant education.
c. The paintings provide the University with an exceptional work of art and leaves behind a story for many generations to come.
II. During Old Main business hours which are 8 a.m- 5 p.m Monday through Friday the public is welcomed to take a look at these one of a kind masterpieces.
Transition: Today “Old Main” is used as a place that holds events as well as historic tours. Even protests have occurred on this common ground.
(Main Point #3 Importance)
I. The most recent event took place this year on June 2nd as Penn States calendar states it held a dinner for the distinguished alumni.
II. Annual tours are also held by the Lion Ambassadors each spring.
a. These tours allow students as well as faculty members and any other Penn State lover to tour Old Main.
b. Visitors will be informed on the history of the wonderful building,
c. As well as what the building and offices are currently used for.
d. The tour ends with a breathtaking view from the Bell Tower.
III. Many students gather on Old Main to voice their beliefs in protests.
a. The February 9th 2007 issue of the collegian had an article titled “Groups storm Old Main in protest of Harris-Portland settlement”
b. Students protested at “Old Main” the discrimination lawsuit settlement among Penn State officials and a previous women's basketball player named Jen Harris.
