The Creamery
Introduction
I. Peachy Paterno, Cherry Quist, Alumni Swirl. What do all of these have in common? Well, they are just a few of the one hundred famous flavors of Penn States signature ice cream shop, The Creamery.
II. Please raise your hand if you have ever been to the creamery or have tasted ice cream from the Creamery.
III. As an avid fan of the Creamery’s ice cream and of its other products, I can say that I understand just like you, why it is considered one of the greatest ice cream places in the country.
IV. The Creamery is a business that offers Penn State students, faculty, and alumni with a sweet treat during their time at Penn State.
V. The Creamery is a continuing foundation of Penn State life because of its rich history of service to people, its historical significance around the Penn State campus, and because of the huge impact that the Creamery has had on Penn State and the world.

Transition: The Creamery’s tenure at Penn State and its rich history here has outlasted most other memories of the university.
I. Main Point: In 1896, a tradition was founded at Penn State, which for the past 111 years has served millions of ice creams cones to students, faculty, alumni, and tourists alike, all becoming part of its successful history.
a. The first Creamery was started in 1889, the same year that Penn State began teaching students about dairy production, to serve as a hands on way of teaching food science students about various aspects of productions and sales.
i. In 1896, the Creamery opened up to the public during the first football weekend of the season.
ii. It soon became a tradition and its popularity spread with its introduction of milk, cheese, and other dairy products to its menu and by 1932, the Creamery was selling its products across Pennsylvania.
b. Throughout its history, many famous people such as Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, and Joe Paterno have taken part in the Creamery experience according to the Penn State Live website.
i. In 1978, two graduates, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield founded Ben & Jerrys ice cream, after taking classes at the Creamery in ice-cream production as indicated by the Creamery’s website.
ii. During the 90’s, then President Bill Clinton took a trip to the Creamery and requested that the staff mix two flavors. This was the first time in its history when two flavors had ever been combined, and it has not happened since, according to a news release from the College of Agricultural Sciences in August 2006.
Transition: The Creamery however is not just an institution because of the people who have come to it, but also because of the history of the buildings in which it has occupied.
II. In the history of the Creamery, the company has occupied five different sites since its inception.
a. 1865, marked the year when a small dairy production lab was founded inside the “College Barns” building, according to Creamery’s website history section.
i. 1889 ushered in the establishment of the famous Creamery ice cream, when Henry Armsbys was given seven thousand dollars by the state to build the first Creamery building as a response for the growing demand of dairy products in the area.
ii. As the demand for dairy production increased even more, the Creamery moved to its third location in 1904 to the Patterson Building, and at this time, the dairy production major was created.
b. In 1932, Borland Laboratory became the fourth home of the Creamery, and for over seventy years this was its home, eventually adding a large sales room and a raw-milk receiving production facility.
i. When the new food science building opened in August 2006, the fifth and final home of the Creamery opened to the public.
ii. Its current store is equipped with production facilities, a full service ice cream shop, and a large storage facility. The new Creamery is over 3700 square feet and is two and half times the size of its previous location.
Transition: When a person visits the Creamery, not only do they think of its ice cream and history, but also the massive influence that the Creamery has had on Penn State.
III. The Creamery has served as a foundation of Penn State life for many years, and its impact on the university has kept the Creamery as one of the most fascinating and important aspects of college life.
a. The Creamery’s financial success has impacted the Penn State Department of Agriculture in several ways according to the Creamery’s website.
i. Creamery sales revenue contributes to the funding of research and projects for food processing and ice cream oriented majors and classes.
ii. As well, funds from the Creamery help to extend the educational, travel, and extended learning programs in the Agriculture department.
b. The Creamery has had a long tradition of hiring able and skilled workers, and according to their website, the Creamery has employed over 1500 people in the past fifteen years.
i. The Creamery employs around sixty students during a semester, and over the year, over one hundred students work the salesroom and production center in the Berkey building.
ii. This commitment to employing students has impacted the lives of many students and while working at the Creamery students learn valuable skills.
Transition: The impact of the Creamery on Penn State has become part of the reason that the Creamery is held in such high regard.
Conclusion
I. The Creamery is an enterprise that offers Penn State’s growing community with a tasty treat during their time at Penn State.
II. It remains as a continuing foundation of Penn State life because of its rich history of service to people, its historical significance around the Penn State campus, and because of the giant impact that the Creamery has had on Penn State and the world.
III. Standing alongside Football, the Nittany Lion, and Old Maine, the Creamery will always be one of the biggest parts of Penn State University as long as there are people out there who want some ice cream. Thank you.

I can tell you did a lot of research preparing for this speech. The organization is very well done as well. I don't see how you'll have any problem being passionate and interested in this topic because who doesn't love creamery ice cream? You have a good attention getter but the only thing I'm worried about is that the speech almost contains too many individual stats and facts that may detract from you seeming passionate about it.
